THE POWER OF FLOWER CROWNS
Posted on July 04 2016

Very few fundraisers have been in this city which encourage a purely female based event - but we remained confident that this was exactly the audience we needed. And how true that was. Girls connected on a beautiful level and felt the full impact of the evening. Indeed, there was something unique about getting the girls together for a cause to create a change. This was something that needed to happen - a message that needed to be given. And the response was phenomenal. Ladies clearly so moved by the breathtaking A21 testimonies, and the very clear message that ‘this could be my friend, my daughter, or even me.’

This was something that needed to happen - a message that needed to be given. And the response was phenomenal. Ladies clearly so moved by the breathtaking A21 testimonies, and the very clear message that ‘this could be my friend, my daughter, or even me.’

We felt that in in our city that very little was known about organisations such as Be Hers and the A21 Campaign, and this needed to change. The work of these groups is astounding and worth raising awareness for. The lives taken into slavery are worth fighting for and rescuing. And awareness alone is just the start of the win. We knew once people’s eyes were opened to what is happening around them, and they’re aware of what they can do, there would be no stopping them taking part.

Hush filled the room as women were busy with pens. Their hearts spilling on to the page. Here was our opportunity to give something invaluable to the victims of trafficking who have had so much taken away from them. We can give them something to treasure again - themselves.
Although an amazing amount of funds were raised - more than $12,000 - We strongly believe that the evening alone, the awareness and the experience was by far the biggest victory. It triggered something inside each lady present that they do have something hugely powerful - fight for freedom. Freedom to speak up and stand against the inhumanity that is human trafficking, and that their own freedom can either be taken for granted, or used to give back to someone who’s own freedom has been stolen.
Despite being a stunning night of dancing, flowers and fun, every girl also rediscovered their own gift of freedom, and how to use it. And that alone we can do so little, but together we can achieve so much - there is power in flower crowns.
